About the Role:
The Engineering Director leads the development of next-generation, highly engineered-to-order (ETO) high-pressure pump solutions, with a strong focus on New Product Development (NPD). The role provides both strategic and operational leadership to deliver innovative products on time, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory, safety, and performance standards.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Engineering Director will shape the future product portfolio, drive engineering excellence, manage technical and commercial risk, and lead the development of high-performing engineering teams while maintaining ownership of engineering budgets and cost centres.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Innovation & Engineering Excellence
1. Drive the full lifecycle of next-generation high-pressure ETO pump platforms, from concept and feasibility through to industrialisation and market launch.
2. Shape the future product roadmap in line with business strategy, customer demands, and emerging technologies.
3. Act as the senior technical authority for complex engineered solutions and critical design decisions.
Deliver Strategic Projects & Operational Performance
4. Lead engineering development programmes with full ownership of budgets, resources, timelines, and delivery performance.
5. Establish strong project governance, KPIs, and execution frameworks to ensure successful outcomes.
6. Drive cost transparency, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across the engineering function.
Ensure Compliance, Quality & Safety
7. Lead engineering risk assessments and ensure compliance with MRL, ATEX, PED, CE, and relevant industry standards.
8. Provide leadership on technical, safety, and regulatory matters across all development activities.
Oversee Certification & Technical Governance
9. Ensure robust technical documentation and conformity assessment processes, including technical files, calculations, manuals, and declarations of conformity.
10. Partner closely with Quality and Compliance teams to maintain regulatory excellence and audit readiness.
Drive Innovation & Intellectual Property
11. Lead patent and IP strategy for new product innovations.
12. Collaborate with external patent attorneys on filings, freedom-to-operate reviews, and IP protection activities.
13. Foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and engineering excellence.
Inspire & Develop Engineering Teams
14. Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple locations and disciplines.
15. Build a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, accountability, growth, and continuous learning.
16. Drive talent development, succession planning, and long-term engineering capability growth.
Collaborate Across the Business
17. Work closely with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to deliver scalable, manufacturable, and customer-focused solutions.
18. Support strategic customer engagements requiring senior technical leadership and expertise.
Skills & Experience
19. Extensive experience leading New Product Development within highly engineered ETO environments, ideally involving high-pressure or critical-duty equipment.
20. Proven success managing engineering budgets, cost centres, and complex project portfolios.
21. Strong leadership background at Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, or Director level, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
22. Hands-on, creative problem solver with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges and drive innovative engineering solutions.
23. Strong commercial awareness, strategic thinking, and a data-driven approach to decision making.
24. Passion for continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering excellence.
Preferred Experience
25. Background in pump technologies, turbomachinery, compressors, engines, pressure systems, or Oil & Gas environments.
26. Experience leading global engineering teams within matrix organisations.
27. Demonstrated success in intellectual property development and regulatory certification activities.
28. Knowledge of MRL, ATEX, and PED compliance frameworks.
Education
29. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred
Annual Base Salary: €111,500 – €154,760, depending on experience and qualifications.
