As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and evolution of embedded firmware for photonic measurement and analysis systems. Working closely with R&D teams and product stakeholders, you will drive the translation of customer and product requirements into robust system-level designs and high-quality firmware implementations that deliver innovative, reliable, and scalable solutions.
In this role, you will own critical firmware features and subsystems, influence architectural decisions across hardware–software boundaries, and actively mentor other engineers while continuously raising the bar for firmware quality, compliance, performance, and long-term maintainability across the product platform.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and implementation of complex firmware features and subsystems, owning delivery from technical concept through production and lifecycle support.
* Partner with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, systems, and product) to translate requirements into robust system-level designs and well-justified technical solutions.
* Set a high bar for firmware quality by driving best practices in design, testing, documentation, and maintainability, and by proactively reducing technical debt.
* Own resolution of critical and complex system issues, providing technical leadership in debugging, performance optimization, and overall system stability.
* Continuously deepen expertise in embedded technologies and apply it to improve architecture, performance, and long-term sustainability of firmware platforms.
* Lead by example in code reviews and technical discussions, mentoring engineers and actively maintaining high engineering standards across the team.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
* 6+ years of experience in embedded and firmware development within a professional R&D environment.
* Strong expertise in C/C++ for embedded systems, including advanced debugging and performance analysis.
* Solid experience with embedded Linux and firmware running on complex hardware platforms.
* Experience with real-time systems and close interaction with hardware components and drivers.
* Strong understanding of firmware design principles, system architecture, and maintainable embedded software design.
* Experience with modern development practices, including version control and CI/CD pipelines.
* Ability to lead and own complex firmware components, working independently while aligning with system architecture and product strategy.
* Understanding of physical and measurement principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a firmware and system engineering context.
* Excellent communication skills in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary environment.
* Strong command of English in written and spoken communication.
Preferred
* Initial exposure to optical and/or photonic systems and related technologies.
* Working knowledge of the Python programming language for scripting, automation, or development tasks.
* Basic FPGA / VHDL development knowledge.
* Experience with automated testing for embedded systems.
* Knowledge of communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and related protocols.
* Experience with bare-metal software development on embedded platforms.
