VP of Engineering — Location: Berlin • Salary: up to €200,000
We are a fast-growing Series A startup entering our next stage of expansion. Having validated our product in the market, we’re now focused on scaling operations, maturing our technology, and building a world-class engineering organization. To help us get there, we are searching for a VP of Engineering to join our executive leadership team. This role is not about maintaining the status quo; it’s about building for scale: scaling our product, scaling our systems, and scaling our people.
What You’ll Do
As VP of Engineering, you will own the end-to-end scaling of our engineering organization and technology platform:
Scale the Organization
* Grow and structure the engineering department from its current size to 20+ engineers while maintaining agility and high performance.
* Define organizational design, management layers, and processes that balance speed with sustainability.
* Build strong engineering leadership beneath you, including Directors and Managers.
* Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
* Partner with Product and Design to evolve the roadmap and bring new features to market quickly and reliably.
* Ensure our systems, architecture, and infrastructure can scale to meet rapid growth.
* Establish best practices in development, testing, CI/CD, DevOps, monitoring, and security.
* Balance innovation with technical debt reduction to ensure long-term scalability.
Operational Excellence
* Implement clear engineering KPIs and performance metrics.
* Drive operational maturity while retaining a startup mindset of speed and adaptability.
* Represent engineering in board and investor discussions, demonstrating scalability and resilience of the product and operations.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven startup experience at the Series A–C stage, with direct involvement in scaling technology and teams.
* Experience leading and managing engineering organizations of 40+ people, including multiple layers of leadership.
* A strong track record of scaling engineering operations quickly and effectively, including hiring at pace while retaining quality.
* Technical depth in building scalable, distributed systems and modern cloud infrastructure.
* Strong ability to balance hands-on technical oversight with high-level organizational leadership.
* Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence across the company and at the board/investor level.
