The Faculty of Physics of Bielefeld University has an opening for a postdoctoral position in the field of lattice QCD at finite temperature and density, with starting date September 1, 2026, or soon thereafter. It will be funded by the Wuebben Foundation. The successful candidate will work in the group of Prof. Gert Aarts. It is envisioned that research will be carried out in the context of the international FASTSUM collaboration. Moreover the Collaborative Research Center CRC TRR 211 "Strongly Interacting Matter under Extreme Conditions", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will offer an inspiring environment and a broad scientific network. The duration of the position is for 2 years.
Your Tasks
research (75 %):
development and running of lattice QCD simulation and analysis codes, in the context of thermal QCD ensembles on highly anisotropic latticesparticipation in biweekly FASTSUM collaboration meetingsevaluation and interpretation of results, including analytical calculationsinvolvement in writing publications and presentation of scientific results at conferencesparticipation at workshops and other events, as organised within the CRC TR211teaching (22 %):
participate in teaching (4 LVS)
administrative duties (3 %)

Your Profile We expect
successfully completed PhD degree in theoretical physics (completed by the start of employment)demonstrable prior experience in lattice field theoryexperience with programming and numerical methods, preferably including on high-performance computing facilitiesability to work well in a teamgood knowledge of English in written and spoken form Preferred experience and skills
