Summary / Role Purpose
The Senior R&D Engineer (m/f/d) is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Participates in planning, architecture, and research
2. Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research
3. Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
4. Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
5. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
6. Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
7. Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
8. May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
9. BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience
10. Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
11. Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in Simulation of Vehicle autonomy (Aerospace & Defense or AD/ADAS)
12. Expertise in Python development with hands-on experience using FastAPI and knowledge of C++ or more programming languages.
13. Proficiency in containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
14. Experience building and optimizing cloud-based applications on AWS, Azure, etc.
15. Strong background in microservices architecture, DevOps practices, and CI/CD tools.
16. Proven ability to lead development efforts, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
17. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
18. Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale, cloud-based commercial software development environment
19. Good communication and interpersonal skills
20. Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team
