Overview
The Director – New Ventures is a strategic leader within the Veralto Water Quality Platform (WQP), reporting to the Vice President, General Manager of Innovation & New Ventures. Working alongside key platform leaders, this role shapes the platform’s growth through identification, evaluation, and advancement of high-potential venture opportunities. This is an opportunity to influence Veralto’s long-term growth by engaging with the startup and investment community at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and market impact.
Responsibilities
* Build and drive a robust pipeline of strategic new venture opportunities that address WQP customer problems.
* Act as a connector between the external innovation ecosystem and Veralto’s operating companies; translate promising technologies into actionable investment and partnership opportunities.
* Leverage deep market insight and disciplined process execution to surface, assess, and position ventures for adoption.
* Manage the Water Quality Platform’s new ventures funnel, ensuring accurate tracking, prioritization, and continuous advancement of high-potential opportunities.
* Develop and maintain a comprehensive startup database with insights on maturity, funding history, IP, team, and relevance to WQP needs.
* Lead the preparation of strategic materials for periodic Minority Investment Funnel Reviews, synthesizing market signals and internal analyses into clear recommendations.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with startups, venture funds (including those where Veralto is an LP), accelerators, and other innovation partners.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with platform and operating company leaders to ensure venture opportunities align with the WANT list of prioritized customer problems.
* Apply the Veralto Enterprise System (VES) to drive standard work and efficient execution in external innovation workflows.
* Monitor industry and related market trends to identify emerging technologies and companies with disruptive potential.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field. Advanced degree or MBA preferred.
* 10+ years of progressive experience in strategy, innovation, business development, or technical leadership, preferably in industrial or technology-driven markets.
* Exceptional ability to build trust and strong relationships across all organizational levels, from operating company leaders to technical teams.
* Demonstrated success mobilizing stakeholders around innovation initiatives in a matrixed environment.
* Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and ability to translate complex opportunities into prioritized, actionable recommendations.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, adaptable for technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
* High level of self-direction, ownership, and comfort navigating ambiguity.
* Familiarity with emerging technologies and the startup ecosystem, or a demonstrated ability to learn and engage rapidly.
* Experience with pipeline management, opportunity assessment, and executive review processes.
Preferred
* Exposure to external innovation ecosystems, especially in water, sustainability, or industrial technology sectors.
* Experience working with global or distributed teams.
Travel
* Approximately 30% domestic and international travel to operating companies, innovation ecosystem partners, and industry events.
* Hybrid/remote flexibility with regular engagement across the organization.
Location and Compensation
The role is posted in multiple locations for advertising purposes; preferred location is hybrid at one of Veralto’s operating company locations, but remote work is also considered. US-only compensation range: $200,000 – $245,000 USD per year, plus bonus eligibility. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
