Role Summary / Purpose of Job
A Pro Bono Manager position within the global pro bono team supporting with the development and management of the firm’s global pro bono practice, with a particular focus on Germany and the Continental Europe region. This is a permanent role based in any of our German offices.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Reporting to the Head of Pro Bono, and working closely with the pro bono partner for Germany and the rest of the global pro bono team, this role will involve:
1. leading and managing the firm’s pro bono practice in Germany
2. coordinating pro bono work across the wider Continental Europe region
3. acting as the primary point of contact for all pro bono matters in Germany
4. driving the development of the German pro bono practice in line with national regulations, professional conduct rules, and firm-wide strategy
5. working closely with other colleagues in the global pro bono team, including attending team meetings to ensure coordination between pro bono in Germany, Continental Europe and the rest of the firm
6. planning, organising, and coordinating German-wide and Continental European pro bono projects, including collaborations with other law firms
7. developing and scoping new pro bono mandates in Germany
8. ensuring all German pro bono mandates comply with applicable laws, bar association requirements, and internal risk protocols
9. liaising closely with the Legal Department in Germany and Austria to review scope, mandate conditions, and conflict checks
10. overseeing and monitoring pro bono mandates and projects in Germany and Continental Europe
11. building and maintaining strategic relationships with German and European pro bono clients, clearing houses and referral organisations
12. representing the firm in German and European pro bono networks, forums, and events.
13. assisting the Head of Pro Bono with planning and monitoring of the German and Continental Europe pro bono financial donations
Key requirements
14. Law degree and significant experience within a legal environment with a strong understanding of German and EU legal frameworks
15. Proven ability to manage complex legal projects and supervise multi-jurisdictional matters
16. Organisational and communication skills, capable of managing multiple priorities across jurisdictions and engaging with senior leadership, clients and other key stakeholders
17. Fluency in English and German; additional European languages are an advantage
