Doctoral Researcher (PhD Position, m/f/d)
in the field of Neurobiology
In accordance with § 2 of the WissZeitVG and § 72 HessHG, the positions are to be filled on a fixed-term basis at the Chair of Animal Physiology and Molecular Biomedicine, Department of Animal Physiology at the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry with the opportunity for own academic qualification. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hesse (E 13 TV-H).
As long as the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term contract is not exceeded, you will be employed for an initial period of 3 years. An extension for up to another 2 years is possible under the above-mentioned condition.
The Research Group
Our research activities primarily focus on developmental, cellular, and functional aspects of the olfactory system in amphibians and other aquatic vertebrates. Using advanced imaging, neurophysiological, and molecular biological methods, we investigate the olfactory system. Furthermore, we use the olfactory network as a model to study the dynamics of neuronal development, synaptogenesis, neuronal degeneration, and regeneration. Our research is complemented by behavioral studies that explore the role of olfactory cues under natural conditions. We place great value on a collegial working environment, early scientific responsibility, and the targeted support of the academic development of our team members.
Your Responsibilities
* You will take on exciting responsibilities, including services in research and teaching (§ 72 HessHG), while also advancing your professional and didactic qualifications.
* You will teach students in accordance with the teaching regulations of the state of Hesse in the subjects "Animal Physiology" and "Neurobiology".
* You will carry out research projects with a focus on neurobiological and olfactory topics (scientific services according to § 65 HessHG)
* You will supervise theses and support the academic development of students.
Your Qualifications and Skills
* completed Master´s or equivalent university degree, ideally in the life or natural sciences
* working experience with Amphibians or other aquatic vertebrates, fluorescence microscopy, and behavioral experiments is advantageous
* knowledge and experience in evaluating scientific data, primarily from imaging techniques, is advantageous
* good written and spoken English
* teaching experience in the subjects of "Animal Physiology" and "Neurobiology" is advantageous
* ability to work independently and capacity for teamwork
