Geophysicist advanced processing - ultra high resolution marine seismic data (bremen, de, 28359)

Bremen
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
Inserat online seit: 3 Juli
Beschreibung

Who we are ...
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. Do you want to join us in shaping a sustainable future?

This team is looking for you ...
You will be part of the »Integrated Site Characterization« group at our site in Bremen. Here, we develop risk mitigation and geological characterization tools that help make informed decisions for the construction of offshore wind farms. At present, the team consists of five employees and several students. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties awaiting you ...
You will support our team during acquisition campaigns at sea (around six weeks per year), meaning you will be front and center when the data is collected. A wide variety of duties await you on board, including equipment monitoring, initial data processing and quality control, as well as deploying and retrieving equipment. Once the large, multichannel seismic data sets have been collected, you will take care of the complex data processing and interpretation together with the team. Throughout the campaign, you will monitor the overall progress of the corresponding work package and coordinate the deployment of other team members, if necessary.

A diverse working day is guaranteed!
While working on a wide range of research and development projects, you will contribute to our project management activities and regularly report on your progress and the quality of the data involved. You will monitor your work independently and document your progress in the form of logs. In addition, you will generate reports including graphics and maps based on the data you have processed and will also contribute to the development of new data processing algorithms. Furthermore, you will develop new research ideas, submit research proposals, publish your results in scientific journals, and present them at conferences.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in Geosciences, Geophysics, or a similar subject and had the opportunity to put your knowledge of seismic data processing to the test in your everyday work. Can you perform basic corrections to shallow marine seismic data, such as denoising and demultiple? Would you also be able to execute standardized workflows, troubleshoot, and perform quality control? Great! Are you well-versed in the use of inversion algorithms and confident in your Python skills? Perfect! Hopefully, you are already familiar with the GLOBEClaritas and feel confident creating reports and scientific publications. If that’s the case, then you should definitely keep reading!

Your profile is complemented by ...
Ideally, you have offshore experience, as well as practical experience in data acquisition and monitoring equipment and carrying out quality control of multi-channel seismic data. It would be even better if you also had experience with streamer systems and their high work safety standards. Perhaps you already have some knowledge of the geology of the North Sea and Baltic Sea or experience with diffraction data processing? Maybe you have gained some modeling experience of the seismic wave field or a general understanding of seismic data interpretation? It would be great if you had experience communicating with customers. Do not worry if your profile does not cover everything yet; you can also develop with us. Here at IWES, we operate on an international level – a good command of  German and English will make your day-to-day work easier.

What you can expect

How would you like to develop?
We support you on your professional journey. Whether personally, professionally, or methodically, we find the right qualification measures for you. It is also possible to be responsible for your own doctorate here. We offer you our full support! Do you want to immerse yourself in additional fields and work independently to drive new topics forward? With us, you get to shape your range of duties actively!

What we can offer you ...
When you are not offshore, our flextime and core time system allows you to plan your working day flexibly. In addition, you also have the option to work remotely. Not sure who can look after your children in an emergency? We help by offering emergency childcare. Interested in employee discounts for events, clothes, vacations, etc.? With us, you can select from a varied range of offers and easily take advantage of them for yourself via an app. For sustainable mobility, you can also benefit from the Deutschland-Ticket as a job ticket.

We set store by diversity and equality!
Our open institute culture as well as mutual tolerance and respect ensure that every person feels comfortable with us from the start. We achieve this, for example, through our onboarding program for new employees as well as by raising awareness of and providing training on diversity and equal opportunity issues. We firmly believe that diversity is key to our success. Join us and experience this for yourself!
