Working hand-in-glove with our policy team and Climate Action Tracker partners, you will anticipate the political weather to conceive, craft, and execute a full suite of communications actions, from policy reports and social media campaigns to interactive digital products and high-impact events.
The Senior Communications Manager – Climate Action Tracker is responsible for conceptualising and driving strategic communications campaigns to further the mission of Climate Analytics: supporting climate action aligned to the 1.5°C warming limit.
The main area of responsibility will be to support coordination of the communications activities of the Climate Action Tracker (CAT), a high-profile, independent initiative that tracks and assesses government climate action against the 1.5°C limit. The below responsibilities are primarily relate to the successful delivery of CAT but may also include general communications tasks for other projects.
Design and execute communication strategies and plans targeting key moments in the policy cycle, including working closely with the CAT comms group to help develop, update and implement the CAT comms strategy.
Act as communications touchpoint for key content areas, working especially closely with the policy team to provide ongoing strategic guidance and propose impactful communication solutions.
Manage integrated communication campaigns, spanning media relations, social and digital communications, events and newsletters.
Monitor climate news and political developments, reacting to opportunities to maximise our media impact.
Plan and execute social media campaigns, drafting content, creating or commissioning assets (graphics, short video, toolkits), scheduling and optimising across channels, and iterating using performance insights.
Maintain and continuously improve our digital presence: update website content, enhance interactive features and visual design, optimise performance and accessibility, and coordinate delivery with external providers.
Line-edit for clarity and consistency, apply templates and styles, coordinate figures/references/metadata, ensure accessibility and brand compliance, and oversee approvals and final delivery.
Event Management: conceptualise and deliver events and webinars.
Develop and embed tools, templates and good communication practices through training and ongoing support to staff.
Support business development, inputting creative communications solutions into proposals.
Contribute to the continual evaluation of communication performance, interpreting and presenting evaluation metrics and making recommendations.
5–10 years of relevant experience in communications within the climate or a closely related field, ideally with a focus on policy influence.
~ Ability to translate complex data analysis and methodologies into clear, compelling messages or visuals for diverse audiences.
~ Experience designing and running social media campaigns across a range of channels (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSky), with proven experience creating digital content and growing digital audiences and social engagement.
~ Established media and stakeholder contacts with a history of successfully delivering integrated communications campaigns.
~ Demonstrated ability to design communications strategies that align with organisational goals and coordinate multi-partner delivery, with examples of measurable impact.
~ Proven ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling content for diverse audiences, with a portfolio of published materials
~ Project experience managing large, complex projects
~ Proven ability to build positive, effective relationships with diverse teams, including experience working in multicultural or international environments.
~ Fluency in French, Spanish or German languages is an asset
Experience in climate policy communications, including on the energy transition, decarbonisation and mitigation policy, and the international climate process
An interest in international affairs, climate politics and policy
Experience using software, such as Canva, Adobe Pro and MailChimp
