Description As the Manager (m/f/d) Dangerous Goods, you will play a crucial role in Hapag-Lloyd's ambition to excel in quality. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring compliance with Dangerous Goods (DG) regulations, governing DG operations, and providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders. You will be a key driver in enhancing our DG processes, contributing to commercial success, and maintaining our commitment to safety and quality. Responsibilities Act as the Designated Person (beauftragte Person) under the German Administrative Offenses Act (OWiG), ensuring compliance with DG regulations. Oversee adherence to the IMDG Code, national laws, local regulations, and internal DG procedures. Perform DG finalization and governance checks with DG Coordinators and vessel planners for shipments from Region North Europe and Region South Europe. Review and approve DG stowage and segregation plans for Hapag-Lloyd vessels. Manage confirmed undeclared or misdeclared DG cases, implementing corrective and preventive actions. Provide emergency support during DG incidents, guiding vessel command and shore colleagues. Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with DG Vision and company strategy. Review and enhance procedures to improve quality, efficiency, and compliance. Offer expert DG advice to internal teams and customers. Ensure operational continuity by participating in weekend duty rotations. Qualifications Completed apprenticeship or university degree in Economics, Maritime Studies, Logistics, or a related field. Relevant professional experience in Dangerous Goods transport, with a preference for container shipping. In-depth knowledge of the IMDG Code and DG compliance in maritime transport. Additional expertise in regulatory frameworks (e.g., ADR, 49 CFR, GGVSee) is advantageous. Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Ability to balance regulatory compliance with commercial considerations. Excellent communication skills to align diverse stakeholders. Proactive, ownership-driven mindset with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Familiarity with Hapag-Lloyd's culture and values is preferred.
