Your responsibilities
You support highly gifted and motivated students from grade 5 up to high school in computer science. Your focus will be on guiding small groups (by age group), preparing them for competitions (e.g. Federal Computer Science Competition, Informatics Olympiad), and providing long-term mentoring. You will work independently, while being strongly supported by Optimax and in close cooperation with schools and the Department of Computer Science at HTWK Leipzig.
* Planning, conducting, and further developing an enrichment program for talented students in computer science (every two weeks, 90 minutes per group)
* Preparing and mentoring students for computer science competitions
* Collaborating with schools and teachers
* Building a long-term support structure in the Halle/Leipzig region
* Optionally: organizing holiday activities, hackdays, etc.
Your skills
Must-Haves
* Excellent German skills (minimum C1, spoken and written)
* Advanced or completed studies in Computer Science or Computer Science Education (Master's level or equivalent qualification) with very good grades
* Teaching or mentoring experience with young people, e.g. through tutoring, study groups, tutorials, youth education, etc.
* Solid knowledge of computer science fundamentals, particularly algorithms, data structures, programming logic and languages
* Ability to convey knowledge in a structured and motivating way
* Independent, reliable, and well-organized work style
* Enthusiasm for working with young people, motivation and patience
* Willingness to provide an extended background check
* Curiosity, commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for working on projects together
Nice-to-Haves
* Personal experience participating in computer science competitions (e.g. Federal Computer Science Competition, IOI, Jugend forscht, student academies)
* Experience in gifted education or working with high-performing students
* In-depth knowledge of competition-relevant topics (e.g. recursion, graph theory, dynamic programming)
* Didactic training (e.g. in teacher education, tutor training, or educational workshops)
