Description Nokia Strategy & Technology, including Nokia Bell Labs and Nokia Standards, is the renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards. The department of RAN Architecture in Nokia Standards, Munich, offers the opportunity for a master student to gain practical experience through working with highly skilled colleagues in a scientific environment and contributing to future-looking projects. Responsibilities The student will extend Nokia’s 6G simulator “SAMPO” with the Rel-18 early CSI (eCSI) feature. This feature, initially introduced for L1/L2 triggered mobility (LTM), aims at reducing throughput interruption time on the radio link when the UE is handed over between cells. This feature is supported by Nokia as well as other 3GPP leading players such as Qualcomm, Apple, and Huawei. After developing a solid understanding of the feature, the student will test the feature on different mobility scenarios to check its efficacy. The efficacy can be tested by comparing the throughput of a UE/NW implementing this feature directly after handover (e.g. the first 100-200 msecs) to a UE/NW that doesn’t implement this feature. The simulation results will be presented in project meetings and may further be used as a starting point for developing IPRs. Qualifications Your skills and experience We are looking for highly motivated candidates that are excited about developing cutting-edge technologies for 6G. The candidate should fulfill the following qualifications: A bachelor's degree in communications engineering or information theory with a grade of at least 2.0 in the German state (or equivalent in other grade systems) Basic knowledge in wireless communication networks and signal processing techniques Proficiency in relevant programming languages for quantitative evaluations (e.g. C++, Matlab, Python) High proficiency in spoken and written English Ability to work independently Readiness to collaborate in an international team with different cultural backgrounds
