Principal Scientist, Pharmacology
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Scientist in Pharmacology to provide scientific leadership across preclinical pharmacology activities within a growing biotech environment. This role sits at the core of the preclinical development organisation and plays a key role in advancing small-molecule programmes from early discovery through IND-enabling studies, supporting progression toward first-in-human trials.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and shape preclinical pharmacology strategy across multiple discovery and development programmes
* Act as the pharmacology lead on project teams, providing clear scientific guidance on mechanism, efficacy, and translational relevance
* Design, oversee, and interpret in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies to support candidate selection and IND-enabling development
* Integrate pharmacology data with DMPK, toxicology, and biomarker strategies to inform dose selection and clinical translation
* Communicate complex pharmacology data clearly to project teams and senior leadership
* Manage CROs and external partners, ensuring studies are delivered to high scientific and quality standards
* Contribute to the development and mentoring of internal pharmacology capability as the organisation grows
Candidate Profile
* PhD (or equivalent) in Pharmacology, Biology, or a related discipline
* Significant industry experience in preclinical pharmacology within biotech, pharma, or CRO settings
* Proven track record of advancing small-molecule programmes through lead optimisation and IND-enabling development
* Strong understanding of translational pharmacology and principles supporting first-in-human dose selection
* Confidence in making and defending scientific decisions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
