As a Senior Legal Counsel within the RWE Offshore Wind Legal Team you will be acting as one of the key legal advisors handling specialized legal matters relating to RWE’s offshore wind projects. Being allocated to selected projects, you will be the first point of contact or lead lawyer (depending on the size of the project) providing legal support for those projects. You will advise the projects directly in your area of legal proficiency as well as coordinate the legal advice of specialized inhouse and external legal experts.



This role provides you with the opportunity to work on high profile, complex offshore wind energy projects and transactions. You will deliver commercial and solution-oriented legal advice to our offshore wind business.





About the role



* Advise the business on offshore wind auction participation rules (incl., as the case may be, seabed lease, permitting, offtake, offtake hedge auction), support qualification and bidding processes and strategy development
* Advise the business on permitting and planning procedures, environmental legal topics, as well as work with expert advisors on obtaining permits and other consents required for the development, construction and/or operation of offshore wind projects
* Develop, assess and coordinate permitting strategies, as well as overlook project development legal paths
* Advise the business on obtaining any other consents to generate energy, e.g. generation license, entries to registers
* Advise the business on grid connection matters, where applicable
* Advise the business on other specific electricity legislation and regulation (eg. REMIT fundamental data reporting), including engagement with regulators and market operators
* Advise the business on European legal legislation
* Evaluate impact of global green policies on the business, integrating by working closely with the Regulatory Affairs & Strategy departments



Your role will also include:



Project Legal support



* Provide legal support to establish and maintain the projects’ compliance with applicable laws and regulations throughout the projects’ lifetime, including the development of respective guidelines and processes
* Keep oversight about all legal matters and advise the senior management about all legal related risks of a project, including claims and disputes
* Be the projects’ first point of contact for legal advice and coordinate specialised inhouse (esp. procurement law, M&A law, project finance law, corporate law, commercialization law) as well as external legal advice in a cost and work efficient manner for the benefit of the project





General legal support



* Assist and manage the legal interface in M&A and joint-venture transactions
* Assist and manage the interface in legal matters during the construction & operations phase
* Assist and manage the interface in route-to-market and transactions relating to the commercialisation of electricity, including power purchase agreements and hedges
* Manage organizational or coordination tasks including process optimization initiatives
* Establish and develop effective cross-functional and cross-cultural working relationships with legal but also business colleagues in the regions of interest and the wider RWE group





Job requirements and experience



* Graduated in law with distinction and qualified as solicitor
* Multiple years of working experience in an energy practice in an international law firm or company in the renewables energy sector
* Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge at least in one of the following legal areas and openness to become a specialist in the others relevant for our project development, in particular: (Renewables) Energy Regulatory matters, Permitting, Planning, Consenting, Environmental Law
* Solid legal instinct, combined with a comprehensive understanding of planning, consenting and permitting law, real estate law, energy regulation and/or infrastructure projects
* Ability to handle multiple tasks, take on new responsibilities and manage tasks efficiently in a challenging, deadline-driven environment
* Commercial and technical understanding, customer-orientation and consulting skills with an ability to integrate details of renewables business into legal requirements
* Experienced team contributor, able to work individually and cross-functionally
* Project management or project leadership experience is beneficial
