Job Description
Knowledge of surface topography is indispensable for new advancements of technology. A multi-laboratory study involving over 60 labs has generated a collection of surface topography data, and the first report of the study has been published (see contact.engineering). The data is accessible to the public and includes the measurement results obtained using various methods (e.g. optical and stylus) and resolutions, probes and scales.
* The aim of your Master thesis is the analysis of data to characterize certain roughness parameters in different scales and to assess which methods are more reliable and why.
* Due to the vast amount of data, a scientific method of analysis and categorization is needed to interpret it.
* The derived conclusions will be adapted in practical applications.
Qualifications
* Education: Master studies in the field of Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Physical Engineering or comparable
* Experience and Knowledge: very good in MATLAB or Python for data analysis; knowledge of surface analysis is beneficial
* Personality and Working Practice: you are a motivated person with an interest in scientific work within industry
* Languages: very good in English
