About the role and why you should join the team
We're launching entirely new revenue streams within ablefy's fast-moving AI Incubator team. Think of this as a true startup within a scale-up: a small, empowered, and business-first unit focused on creating 0→1 products where AI meets commerce.
As our Lead Engineer, you will be the technical owner and hands-on leader for these greenfield products. You'll be setting the technical direction for the team, driving architectural decisions within the product scope, and ensuring the successful, scalable launch of systems that have a direct and measurable impact on the business. You will work side-by-side with product, design, and growth leads who are obsessed with finding signals in the noise and shipping fast.
This is an incubator environment - you'll be building experiments and new products, giving you the freedom to choose the right tools and move quickly without legacy constraints.
Your responsibilities will include:
Technical Leadership & Ownership
* Own the technical direction for the incubator team's greenfield products, making architectural decisions that balance speed, scalability, and maintainability
* Drive technical implementation end-to-end using Next.js for frontend and Node.js backend frameworks (NestJS/ExpressJS) for robust backend services and APIs
* Lead by example as a hands-on technical contributor who writes production code daily (50-70% of your time) while guiding the team's technical approach
* Mentor and elevate 2-3 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, code quality, and engineering excellence
* Collaborate with Staff Engineers on broader architectural patterns and standards while maintaining decision authority for your product scope
Product Development & Delivery
* Translate business outcomes into clear technical solutions, ensuring implementation directly supports growth and MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) goals
* Collaborate intensely with our Director Product and cross-functional leads to define requirements, test hypotheses, and drive continuous, rapid iteration
* Balance speed and quality - ship fast to validate hypotheses while building maintainable systems that can scale
Modern Stack & AI Integration
* Design and build cloud-native applications deployed on Vercel/AWS, implementing modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, observability)
* Integrate AI-powered capabilities where they create tangible user value - working with LLM APIs, vector databases, or agent-based systems as needed
* API Integration: Collaborate with ablefy's Platform/Payment teams to consume APIs from our core system when needed, while keeping incubator products decoupled and autonomous
Team Growth & Culture
* Help grow the team by participating in technical hiring and setting high standards for engineering quality
* Foster a builder mindset - we're looking for someone who sees experiments as opportunities and isn't afraid to throw away code that didn't work
Who you are
Technical Expertise:
* 8+ years of professional full-stack or backend engineering experience
* Deep, production-level expertise in Next.js and Node.js (NestJS or ExpressJS) - you've built and shipped real products with this stack
* Strong architectural judgment - you know when to build for scale and when to build for speed, and you can explain the tradeoffs
* Hands-on cloud deployment experience with AWS, Vercel, or similar platforms, including CI/CD pipelines and basic DevSecOps practices
* API design and integration experience - you've built and consumed RESTful APIs and understand authentication, authorization, and API versioning
Leadership & Mindset:
* Proven experience leading 2-5 engineers as a tech lead or similar role - you've guided technical decisions and mentored others
* Entrepreneurial mindset with strong product ownership - you connect technical work to business outcomes and can prioritize ruthlessly
* Comfortable with ambiguity and high pace - you thrive in "0→1" environments where priorities shift and you need to find the signal in the noise
* Strong communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
* AI/LLM integration experience - you've worked with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar APIs in production, or built features with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, etc.)
* Prior incubator or startup experience - you've built products from scratch in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments
* E-commerce or SaaS platform experience - you understand multi-tenancy, payment flows, or subscription models
* Open-source contributions or side projects that demonstrate your builder mindset
* Experience with modern AI tooling - prompt engineering, LangChain, or similar frameworks
