Head of Project Management – Renewable Energy (PV & Battery Storage)

An established and fast-growing renewable energy company is seeking an experienced Head of Project Management to lead and scale its delivery function across large-scale photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who combines strong technical expertise with operational excellence and team leadership capabilities. You will play a key role in shaping project delivery structures, developing scalable processes, and driving the successful execution of complex renewable energy projects.
About the Role
As Head of Project Management, you will take ownership of the project management department and lead a growing team responsible for delivering commercial and industrial renewable energy projects.
You will oversee project execution from planning through commissioning, while also contributing strategically to process optimisation, resource planning, and organisational development.
This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and wants to actively contribute to the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary project management team
* Oversee the successful delivery of PV and battery storage projects across all phases
* Manage project portfolios with responsibility for timelines, budgets, quality, and resources
* Develop and standardise project management processes, tools, and reporting structures
* Support teams in resolving technical and operational challenges
* Coordinate internal stakeholders, contractors, utilities, and external partners
* Drive escalation management and proactive risk mitigation
* Oversee grid connection processes, commissioning, and technical acceptance activities
* Contribute to commercial and operational strategies relating to battery storage, flexibility, and energy market participation
* Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability development within the project organisation
Candidate Profile
* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
* Several years of experience managing renewable energy, infrastructure, or energy transition projects
* Previous experience leading teams or operating in a senior project management capacity
* Strong understanding of photovoltaic systems, battery storage technologies, and electrical infrastructure
* Experience with grid connection procedures, AC integration, and regulatory requirements
* Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills
* Familiarity with project management software and ERP systems
* Commercial awareness with experience managing project profitability and performance metrics
* Entrepreneurial mindset with excellent communication and decision-making abilities
* Fluent German language skills (written and spoken)
