Project Development Manager
Location: Hamburg/Karlsruhe (on-site minimum 3 days per week)
Language requirement: German minimum C1 level + English
Sector: Solar PV + BESS
This role focuses on the development of a portfolio of battery energy storage projects, with future exposure to wind and solar technologies. Reporting into senior regional leadership, you will manage projects end-to-end — from early site identification through land acquisition and permitting, up to the point of construction readiness.
This role requires a strong on-site presence in Hamburg (at least 3 days per week) and fluent German at C1 level or above.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify and evaluate new greenfield opportunities for battery storage projects
* Source suitable land, engage with landowners, and negotiate and secure land lease agreements
* Manage and coordinate land agents and land consultants
* Lead project development activities across all phases, engaging with local stakeholders
* Commission and monitor environmental, technical, and grid studies
* Coordinate external parties including consultants, advisors, grid operators, suppliers, and local authorities
* Liaise with spatial planners, technical experts, and environmental specialists
* Prepare and submit permitting and planning applications
* Manage the permitting process through to approval
* Lead submissions for public and private tenders
* Oversee pre-construction activities including risk assessments, procurement preparation, EPC negotiation support, and drafting of technical and commercial documentation
Requirements
* Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Geography, or a related field
* (specialisation in renewable energy, environment, or project management preferred)
* 2–8 years’ experience in project development or project management
* Experience in renewable energy projects, or comparable infrastructure sectors
* (e.g. telecoms, power lines, or large-scale public/private infrastructure)
* Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel in a complex environment
* Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
* High level of adaptability, independence, and efficiency
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Strong ethical standards, sound judgement, and integrity
* Leadership mindset with strong team collaboration skills
* Fluent German (minimum C1 level – essential) and strong English
* Valid driving licence and willingness to travel as required
