Team / division overview
The Chief Risk Office (CRO) within DWS is an independent function responsible for protecting the business as well as being a trusted advisor and partner for supporting sustainable growth. The Investment Risk team, as part of CRO, has members in Frankfurt, Berlin, Luxembourg, London, New York, Chicago, Zurich, Hong Kong, Taipei, and India.
As an Investment Team Lead (Risk Manager), you will focus on the assessment, control, and governance of investment risks taken within illiquid alternative funds and separately managed accounts, with a focus on real estate equity. In your role, you will oversee market, counterparty, credit, and liquidity risks, including ESG/sustainability risk factors. You will be instrumental in advancing the risk management framework while supporting growth initiatives within a focus region for the firm.
Role Details
As a Team Lead Risk you will (be):
1. Perform risk and valuation analyses on a range of illiquid assets with a focus on real estate equity.
2. Enhance the risk management framework and develop risk indicators to identify, assess, and monitor risk.
3. Conduct periodic portfolio reviews, policy updates, procedure enhancements, and risk reporting.
4. Contribute to the integration of Climate Risk and Sustainability Risk in the Risk Management Framework for illiquid Investment Strategies.
5. Establish and manage relationships with relevant stakeholders, including researchers, portfolio managers, and product specialists.
6. Represent the Investment Risk Team in DWS fora.
7. Manage and coach team members.
We are looking for
8. Relevant experience with illiquid real estate asset underwriting and risk assessment.
9. Deep knowledge of real estate equity asset class with a focus on the German real estate private equity market.
10. Previous exposure to the asset management business, core risk management concepts, and regulatory frameworks.
11. Business acumen and strong communication skills.
12. Minimum 15 years of experience in the asset management industry, preferably in a front-office (research or portfolio management) or risk management role.
13. Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, or Quantitative fields.
14. Technical knowledge of financial markets, valuation methodologies, and risk models (e.g., DCF, Multiple Approach, VaR, and stress testing).
15. Industry certifications are a plus (e.g., CFA, FRM, CAIA).
16. Previous experience in recruiting and managing resources.
17. Excellent spoken and written German.
