As the demand for digital infrastructure accelerates, we are looking for a visionary leader to steer our Data Centre business in Germany. This is a pivotal role within our Science, Industry & Technology (SIT) portfolio, reporting directly to the Regional and Geography Leaders. You will position Arup not just as a provider, but as the market leader and trusted advisor for high-quality, sustainable, and resilient data centre solutions.
This is a career-defining opportunity to take full ownership of Arup’s Data Centre business in Germany. You will have the autonomy to define the strategy, drive commercial growth, and lead a high-performing team in one of the most dynamic sectors of the built environment.
You will move beyond project delivery to become the face of Arup in the German market, cultivating strategic relationships with major clients and identifying new avenues for value creation. This role offers the platform to champion technical excellence and sustainability, ensuring that our growth is not only profitable but also aligns with our commitment to decarbonise the digital world. You will be instrumental in integrating our local strengths with our global expertise, fostering a culture of innovation that attracts the best talent and secures the most prestigious commissions.
As a Technology Business Leader at Arup, you will:
1. Drive strategy & growth: Develop and execute a comprehensive market strategy to secure sustained revenue growth (aiming for 10–15% annually) and expand our client base with key accounts.
2. Lead commercial excellence: Identify and pursue strategic opportunities, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and ensuring Arup is the partner of choice for complex, high-value projects.
3. Inspire & develop talent: Foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence, mentoring staff, identifying skills gaps, and ensuring the team is equipped to deliver world-class solutions.
4. Collaborate globally: Bridge the gap between our German operations and the wider European and Global Data Centre network, ensuring consistency, sharing best practices, and leveraging global expertise for local wins.
5. Champion operational success: Oversee the operational health of the business unit, ensuring staff engagement, project profitability, and the successful transition of leadership.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for an established leader with a passion for proactive client engagement and a vision for market leadership. We also value:
6. A degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical discipline (an advanced degree is preferred).
7. Approximately 15 years of experience in data centre design or delivery, with a demonstrable track record of success within the German market.
8. Proven experience in business leadership, client management, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex commercial environment.
9. Strong commercial acumen with experience in market-facing roles, project creation, and winning work.
10. Recognised expertise in data centres, due diligence, and strategic advisory.
11. Fluency in both German and English is essential.
12. Willingness to travel within Germany and Europe to engage with clients and teams.
