Your duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Serves as a case manager for students receiving Learning Support services, including writing IEPs, keeping students Learning support records up to date.
* Assesses students formally and informally including diagnostic and standardised assessments, classroom observations, which results in assessment reports, circulation of relevant findings, meetings with parents and teachers, designing of IEPs and monitoring further recommendations.
* Communicates with external professionals such as speech therapists, psychologists and occupational therapists.
* Teaches individual students and/or small groups of students using appropriate and motivating materials including computer software and hardware. Student contact is based on need and is either pull-out or in-class support.
* Provides on-going and timely feedback (academic progress, social/personal, etc.) to individual students, teachers and parents. Provides regular opportunities to liaise with parents and class teachers to discuss student progress.
* Provides a point of contact for teachers to discuss students with learning or behavioural challenges.
* Leads solution-focused meetings about individual students or groups of students
* Assists classroom and single subject teachers to implement best practices differentiation to better match the needs of all learners
* Collaborates in the planning process with teachers to provide for student needs, as well as with the Pastoral Leader, Counsellors and Leadership to ensure student needs are met
* Team teaches with homeroom and specialist teachers to ensure that student needs are met in the classroom.
* Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, grade level meetings, or department meetings as required under the BIS Staff Working Agreement.
* Collaborates as part of the instructional team to discuss students and review the quality of the services offered at BIS, following the relevant Learning Support handbook procedures
* Facilitates professional development in areas related to learning support, formally and informally.

Skills and Experience:
* Education: An appropriate college or university degree from an accredited
higher education institute is a must; preferably a master's degree in special
education or educational psychology.
* Certification: Up-to-date national or state credential required for the assigned
teaching position.
* Experience: Ideally, two years of special education/learning support teaching
experience in a diverse setting.
* Familiarity with International Baccalaureate or a willingness to learn.
* A solid understanding of primary school academic, social, and emotional
development.
