About the Project

About Us:
The Frankfurt Zoological Society is an internationally active conservation organization based in Frankfurt, Germany. For decades, we have been protecting wildlife and their habitats across Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Our Europe Department focuses on preserving large, species-rich wilderness areas, especially in Central and Eastern Europe.

About the Project:
You will work closely with our partners at the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research on the AI4WildLIVE project. It combines artificial intelligence with citizen science to advance biodiversity research through automated analysis of camera trap data. By leveraging modern web technologies and integrating common standards, it bridges the gap between field research and data science by providing a platform that standardizes wildlife data collection and management. As such, it ensures that valuable biodiversity data is preserved and follows FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable) principles for current and future research initiatives.

About the Position

In the role of the Data Integration Coordinator (gn), you will play a pivotal role at the intersection of applied conservation in Europe and the AI4WildLIVE project. You will ensure that biodiversity data collected across European project sites — mainly through acoustic monitoring and camera traps — is integrated, standardized, and translated into meaningful scientific and conservation outcomes. The position is 50% part-time and fixed-term until 31.12.2027. While the role itself is not a PhD position, it can be combined very well with an existing PhD project. Its structure and time commitment make it suitable for candidates who are already pursuing a doctoral degree and wish to gain practical experience in applied conservation alongside their academic research.

Your Tasks

Data Integration & Management

* Lead the integration of years of biodiversity data from European field sites into the AI4WildLIVE platform
* Organize, store, and standardize data to ensure reliability and accessibility
* Prepare datasets for scientific analysis and reporting

Scientific Engagement & Coordination
* Serve as the key interface between field programs, AI4WildLIVE, and the global scientific community
* Collaborate on data analysis with AI4WildLIVE colleagues
* Engage with international researchers and conservation scientists & collaborate on joint research applications and publications

Your Profile

* Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related fields
* Background in applied conservation, ecology, or related fields
* Proven experience in wildlife field research and biodiversity monitoring
* Strong skills in data integration, management, standardization, and database workflows
* Familiarity with scientific data workflows, research collaboration, and AI-driven analytics
* Excellent communication and coordination skills for multidisciplinary teams
* Knowledge of data governance, security, and research publishing processes
* Fully proficient in English; German and/or Ukrainian language skills are an asset

We Offer

* A meaningful role where you can make a real difference – with plenty of creative freedom and clear responsibility
* A committed, interdisciplinary team and a corporate culture based on collaboration and appreciation
