With institutions across major European cities, we are actively searching for an Academic Director to join our team in Berlin, Germany (On-site).
GBS Germany is working in partnership with a leading UK university to establish a satellite campus of the university, which will offer masters’ programmes in business and technology. The Academic Director provides senior academic leadership, ensuring the successful launch and delivery of high‑quality programmes, with strong academic governance and a sector‑leading student experience.
The post‑holder will lead and manage academic staff, uphold academic quality and standards in accordance with GBS Berlin and university requirements, and serve as the principal academic liaison with the university. Though based in Berlin, some travel will be required.
What We Expect from You ?
* Provide day‑to‑day leadership for academic and academic‑related staff at the campus.
* Recruit, induct, allocate workloads, develop, and appraise academic staff to ensure effective programme delivery.
* Build a high‑performing academic culture, promoting professionalism, scholarship, and continuous improvement.
* Manage performance proactively, addressing concerns in line with institutional policies.
* Ensure all programmes are delivered to the highest standards.
* Oversee module planning, timetabling, delivery, and assessment, ensuring alignment with university expectations.
* Monitor programme and student performance.
* Ensure compliance with university regulations, QA expectations, academic integrity frameworks, and relevant policies and processes.
* Ensure appropriate academic governance structures operate effectively at the Berlin campus.
* Oversee student conduct, complaints, and appeals, resolving issues in line with relevant academic and operational procedures.
* Function as the key academic point of contact between Berlin and the university’s central academic and operational teams.
* Contribute to campus strategic planning, growth, and operational development.
What Experience will You Bring to the Role?
* Ideally hold a doctoral-level qualification, but a minimum of master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification is essential.
* Proven experience in managing academic staff and leading academic teams.
* Strong background in programme delivery, academic operations, and assessment management.
* Demonstrated experience in quality assurance and regulatory compliance within UK‑HE frameworks.
* Experience collaborating with partner institutions, awarding bodies, or collaborative provision.
* Experience handling student issues, conduct matters, and academic appeals.
* Strong, but empathetic leadership and people‑management skills.
* Experience in international or transnational education.
* Ideally a detailed understanding of UK regulatory environments.
* Experience in supporting postgraduate teaching and learning is desirable.
* German language proficiency would be a plus.
