EBG MedAustron is a cancer treatment and research center in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, unique in the country. An innovative form of radiation therapy, ion therapy, is used at MedAustron in the fight against cancer.

The IT team is responsible for the operation and updating of our IT services and is the first point of contact for all IT-related matters. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design a scalable, secure, and future-proof data and system landscape that reliably supports our clinical processes. Your diverse responsibilities range from strategic architecture and data engineering to infrastructure and CI/CD topics. Your work will make a real difference in the daily lives of our cancer patients.

Senior Data Engineer (w/m/x)
A job where you can make a difference :
* Strategic architecture responsibility: Design and further development of scalable data architectures (e.g., Data Lakehouse, Medallion Architecture) as well as sound evaluation of on-premise and cloud solutions.
* Data Engineering & Orchestration: Independent “hands-on” development of robust ETL/ELT pipelines (Python, SQL) and control of workflows using orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, SSIS, …)
* AI Integration & MLOps: Implementation of MLOps processes and integration of modern AI components (especially LLMs and RAG models) into the existing system landscape.
* Data Governance & Compliance: Establishing company-wide governance concepts to ensure the highest data quality and integrity, while strictly adhering to data protection regulations (GDPR, patient data).
* Requirements management: Translation of complex technical requirements from the fields of medicine, accelerators and science into precise technical specifications.
* Infrastructure & CI/CD: Provision and maintenance of the data infrastructure using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
* Technical Leadership: Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, conducting code reviews and establishing best practices in software development.
Skills that will make you an asset to our team:
* Completed technical education (HTL, FH, Uni) in the field of Data Science / Data Engineering
* Several years of relevant professional experience
* Good knowledge of Windows and Linux environments
* Excellent programming skills, e.g., in Python.
* Confident use of software development tools (Git, Azure DevOps)
* Safe handling of ETL/ELT tools and their orchestration (e.g., Airflow, SSIS)
* Excellent SQL skills (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, …)
* Experience with AI tools, especially LLM and RAG, is advantageous.
* Basic understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
* Very good German and good English skills (both spoken and written)
* Problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain an overview and understanding of various tasks.
* Team spirit, communication skills, and a proactive, structured, and independent work style.
For legal reasons, we are obliged to state that the minimum salary for this position is €56,000.00 per year. Remuneration is based on a salary scale that takes professional experience and qualifications into account.
