Beschreibung

With more than 120 employees, the Institute of Solar Research conducts research into a sustainable and CO2-free energy supply from solar energy. Our research focuses on concentrating solar technologies that convert sunlight into heat, electricity and fuels. We also conduct research in related areas: We use sensor technology and data analysis to evaluate the energy efficiency of buildings and develop refurbishment strategies. We develop systems for solar power plants and photovoltaic systems to measure and predict solar radiation data. Other important areas of research include the quality assurance of solar thermal power plants and photovoltaic systems and the decarbonisation of the chemical industry. The Sustainable Systems Process Engineering department is dedicated to the transformation of the chemical industry in order to successfully switch from fossil raw materials to renewable energy and material flows. The aim is to identify new sustainable technologies for chemical plants and to develop both scientific findings and practical solutions. To drive the transformation of the chemical industry, our research focuses on several key areas, including system design, process piloting, process intelligence and metrology.

What to expect

Are you passionate about current energy research and want to contribute to climate protection? Together with our team, you will explore innovative methods for the energetic assessment of buildings to create a foundation for effective energy management strategies and climate-sensitive decisions. In your master's thesis, you will extend and validate an algorithm that improves the modeling accuracy of buildings by analyzing real building data and conducting a sensitivity analysis. Your contribution will be crucial in enhancing the accuracy of energy demand predictions and optimizing the practical application of the approach.

Your tasks

* Extension and validation of an algorithm to improve the detail levels of building structures
* Conducting a sensitivity analysis to evaluate the quality of the algorithm and the robustness of the methodology
* Analyzing real building data to enhance and validate zoning strategies
* Documenting results and preparing a final report
* Collaborating with the team to integrate findings into existing simulation frameworks

Your profile

* Ongoing scientific studies in engineering, natural sciences, computer science, or other relevant fields
* Good German and/or English language skills, both written and spoken
* Programming skills, preferably in Python
* Interest in energy efficiency and building modeling
* Initial experience with thermal simulation tools is advantageous

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular.
