Head of Forschungszulage (m / f / d) – Düsseldorf (Hybrid + Ad hoc Travel)

Leonid Group has been retained by a growing organisation to identify a Head of Forschungszulage. Based in Düsseldorf, this full-time role offers a hybrid working model with ad hoc travel for client meetings and industry events.
This position will lead a team of experienced technical consultants, overseeing the delivery of high-quality Forschungszulage claims and ensuring compliance with German regulations. The successful candidate will combine strong leadership with deep technical knowledge and a client-focused mindset.
Responsibilities
 * Lead and mentor a team of R&D technical consultants, driving high-quality delivery and consistency.
 * Manage client relationships and act as a trusted advisor on R&D tax matters.
 * Review and approve technical documentation and project narratives to ensure compliance with the Forschungzulagengesetz (FZulG).
 * Monitor legislative updates and ensure internal processes align with evolving FZulG guidelines.
 * Support team development and training initiatives.
 * Attend client meetings, workshops, and occasional industry events.

About you
You’ll have a strong background in the Forschungszulage programme, with proven team management experience. You’ll be confident reviewing technical content and engaging directly with clients.
 * Several years’ experience in R&D tax, innovation funding, or similar technical consultancy
 * Strong knowledge of the Forschungzulagengesetz (FZulG) and related compliance frameworks
 * Excellent written and verbal communication in both German and English
 * STEM degree preferred (engineering, natural sciences, mathematics, or equivalent)
 * Collaborative, client-oriented, and detail-focused
