Hauptaufgaben Performs initial, in-process, final inspections and carry out repairs on a wide variety of wheeled, gasoline, diesel, and electric powered commercial non-tactical use vehicles and special purpose equipment. For example container side-loaders, forklifts, engineering equipment, and steam cleaners subject to major repair, general overhaul and modification. Many vehicles have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic or mechanical systems designed for construction and comparable heavy duty, industrial or special application. Incumbent performs POV inspections IAW USAREUR Regulation 190-1 and advises customers and POV owners on all technical methods. Resolves disputes with customers. Inspects the functioning and interaction of power and motion elements, electrical, cooling, and suspension systems, instruments and condition of body and chassis. Diagnoses extent of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and material defects. Determines exact nature and extent of repair work. Estimates costs for man-hours and material. Classifies vehicles and equipment as to economically or uneconomically repairable. Completes inspection sheets stating detail type and extent of repair work. Inspects technical adequacy of completed repair work, makes operational and final road tests. Has signatory authority to certify the safe operational condition and/or final disposition of the inspected vehicle and equipment. Upon request from units supported, familiarizes maintenance personnel and equipment operators with peculiarities of assigned equipment and gives on-the job training to customer inspectors to acquaint them with inspection standards used in conducting initial inspections at using level. Plans and coordinates for the availability of material and equipment required to perform work. Make parts determination for required repair. Accounts for material, time and equipment used for accomplished repair. Performs equipment inspection and completes inspection reports. Instructs and advises mechanics and/or junior service technicians. Has overall responsibility for safe performance in working area. Performs daily checks and inspections on shop equipment in use at BASOPS Maintenance Area for safe and serviceable conditions. Solve finding s on the spot. Advises all users on proper use and operation of equipment and provides training for new personnel. Performs other duties as assigned. Exceptions: (1) Current employees in the same or similar inspector or specialist positions who have served one year in their current grade qualify for the next higher grade, regardless of their E&T Level. (2) Current employees who have served one year in a foreman position without official certification as foreman (Meisterbrief) in the same or similar occupation qualify up to the C-6 level.
