> Scope: Full-time > Fixed term: August 31, 2029 > Remuneration: TV-L EG 13 > Start date: As soon as possible We are looking for a Project Assistant bwHPC-S5 (m/f/d) With around 140 employees, the kiz is the second largest central institution at the University of Ulm and provides services in the areas of library, information technology, and media for research, teaching, studies, and administration. As the headquarters of the state-wide competence center "Computer-Aided Chemistry and Quantum Sciences," the kiz operates the JUSTUS 2 research cluster in Ulm, which is available to all scientists in these fields throughout the state. The bwHPC-S5 project, funded by the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts (MWK), aims to continue the state-wide concepts for high-performance computing (HPC) and data-intensive computing (DIC) and, in connection with this, to consolidate the integrated state-wide research infrastructure with first-class support for scientific working groups. Your profile: Completed university degree (diploma or master's) in a scientific or technical subject closely related to chemistry, physics, mathematics, or computer science Very good knowledge of the Linux operating system, including shell scripting. Ideally, experience in performance analysis and optimization of scientific applications in HPC environments, combined with very good programming skills in Fortran or C/C++ and in the use of OpenMP and MPI. Understanding of the system, network, and/or storage technologies used in cluster computing, e.g., batch systems, high-speed interconnect, parallel file systems. Structured and goal-oriented approach to work. High level of social competence Very good written and spoken German and English skills Your tasks: Supporting scientists in the installation or porting of applications and in the migration of subject-specific research projects to the HPC research cluster at the operator's site in Ulm, including in the area of user-specific data management Collaborating on the continuous development of HPC and data services and their infrastructure Analyzing system usage to ensure smooth operation and identify potential for optimization in the execution of calculations and data management Performing performance analyses to optimize the scientific software packages used by the research groups, for example by adapting existing program codes (e.g., single-core optimizations, parallelization of sequential program parts using OpenMP and MPI, integration of performance-optimized numerical and/or data libraries). Advising on the resource- and energy-efficient use of available systems. Developing learning materials and further documentation, as well as regularly participating in workshops and training courses for members of state universities.
