Location Munich, Germany About Us ZeroEx is scaling permanent carbon removal through enhanced rock weathering (ERW) projects in Germany, Brazil, and the United States. We license cutting-edge measurement tech that verifies every tonne sequestered, opening up the ERW industry to mining and agribusinesses ready to add an additional business model or decarbonize their core business. If you are self-driven, independent, motivated by difficult challenges and deeply care about climate impact, you’ll feel at home here. About The Role As our geochemical modeler, you will develop in-house tools to simulate ERW-relevant processes in a range of conditions. You will be responsible for predictions of weathering rates across feedstocks, soil types and climates calibrated using data from projects around the world. You will work closely with our team of scientists and data engineers to design core modeling principles and processes. Additionally, you will keep up to date with current modeling advancements, try new methods and engage with the scientific community. What You'll Do Prediction of weathering rates: model rock dissolution over time with different geochemical models for international projects with different rock composition, soil, and climate. Model development: develop in-house modeling tools, improve existing model infrastructure. Explore what's new: stay ahead of new trends, try out and compare new models, stay in touch with the ERW community. Data handling: work with data from our projects for calibration and validation. Additional Responsibilities Will Include Tight collaboration and exchange with the scientific and data teams on future directions. Precise documentation of all code development. Development of user interfaces and dashboards to make your progress accessible to the whole company. Desired Knowledge And Experience M. Sc. or PhD in Computer Science or Geology / Geochemistry / Soil Science / Environmental Science or related field with working experience in model development. Deep knowledge of geochemical modeling topics, including chemical equilibria, dissolution kinetics, and flow dynamics in the unsaturated zone. Hands-on experience with tools such as PHREEQC, MINTEQ, GWB or similar. Proficient in scientific programming using Python. English fluency. Preferred Skills Familiarity with the concept of ERW. Experience with existing ERW models. Knowledge of silicate dissolution kinetics. What Makes ZeroEx Special? Mission now, not 2050 – Each tonne removed is verified and permanent. On-ground autonomy – You’ll make real-time calls that shape ZeroEx’s scientific program. Global tight-knit team – Join scientists, founders, and operators who move fast and keep egos low.
