Job Title: Freelance Field Service Electrical Engineer Job Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: 7 months (extendable) Location: Cologne (50/50) Rate: €70–€90/hour (depending on experience) Start: [13/07/2025] Language: English (German is a plus) Project Overview: We are seeking a versatile and technically strong Freelance Field Service Electrical Engineer to support the commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of advanced electrical systems in industrial settings. The role also includes significant design, simulation, and remote technical support responsibilities and requires an engineer with a strong background in CAD tools, control system integration, mechanical and electrical interface design, and simulation analysis using tools like ANSYS. Key Responsibilities: On-Site Field Service: Carry out installation, calibration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems at customer facilities. Lead FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) procedures, including documentation and technical validation. Perform wiring and hardware inspection, ensuring alignment with design specifications and electrical safety standards. Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers during on-site activities to ensure smooth integration. CAD & Electrical/Mechanical Interface Design: Create and revise 2D/3D CAD drawings (e.g., panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable routing) using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar tools. Design electrical enclosures, interface connections, and system layouts that align with mechanical constraints and manufacturing requirements. Prepare as-built documentation post-installation. Control Systems Integration: Work closely with control/PLC engineers to integrate electrical hardware with automation systems. Interpret control and I/O schematics, PLC logic diagrams, and process instrumentation drawings (P&IDs). Assist in control cabinet design and panel layout to ensure compatibility with Siemens, Schneider, or Allen-Bradley control systems. FEA Simulation & Technical Validation: Use ANSYS or equivalent simulation software to conduct thermal, stress, or EMI/EMC analysis of components and systems prior to field implementation. Provide technical insight into failure modes and design enhancements based on simulation data. Document simulation assumptions, results, and conclusions in technical reports. Technical Support & Remote Services: Offer remote technical support for software changes, system faults, or commissioning challenges using tools like TeamViewer, AnyDesk. Guide junior engineers or technicians remotely during installations and diagnostics. Participate in design reviews, provide recommendations, and implement design changes as needed. Working Conditions: Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical systems design and field service engineering. Work Permit for Germany. Availability for on-site work during peak installation/commissioning windows.
