The Department of Cardiology, Pneumology and Vascular Medicine is looking for a temporary position from 01.03.2026 until 30.06.2027 for a PhD Researcher position (m/f/d)- in the field of cardiovascular medicine The initial appointment will be for the duration of the project, with the option of extension.The position is subject to the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG in accordance with Section 2 (2)). In a cardiovascular project funded funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) included in the Transregio CRC 259, we aim to investigate genesis and progression of aortic diseases such as aortic stenosis and/or aortic aneurysm. The project is based on murine techniques and investigations (Wire injury, Elastase model, functional analyses including echocardiography, langendorff perfused heart model and miliar catheter). Aortic stenosis or aneurysm are induced in order to identify and investigate potential therapeutic target or to detect specific risk prediction markers. In collaboration with Cologne and Bonn as collaboration partners in CRC TR 259 there are also big animal models (porcine experiments) included. The project is fincned until 30th June 2027. Continued funding is planned. We are searching for a motivated and encouraged applicant with good English (German desirable) and a M.Sc. degree in natural sciences or a related field. We appreciate experience in murine experiments with knowledge in functional cardiac analyses such as murine echocardiography, langendorff perfused heart model or wire injury models. Additional experience in molecular biology skills is desirable. The applicant will be responsible for the named research project funded by TR CRC 259. We offer a young and growing working group in the field of cardiovascular medicine with specific focus on structural heart disease, platelet function, cardiometabolism and gender studies.
