We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.
To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise in the Laboratory for Vascular Biology at the Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery – ideally with you on board
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our research team investigating the role of gut microbiota-derived metabolites in cellular signaling processes, with a particular focus on aortic pathologies and endothelial integrity.
PROJECT:
This project aims to uncover how microbiota-derived metabolites influence the endothelial barrier function and neutrophil transmigration, with an emphasis on their implications in aortic disease development and progression. A key component of the project will also explore general metabolite-mediated signaling in the aortic endothelium, aiming to identify novel molecular pathways involved in vascular inflammation and remodeling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Analysis of human aortic tissue specimens
* Execution of in vitro experiments using primary human aortic endothelial cells
* Investigation of molecular mechanisms regulating endothelial barrier function and immune cell transmigration
* Collaborative work with core facilities for genomics and proteomics to generate and analyze large-scale datasets
* Identification and characterization of novel microbiota-metabolite-driven signaling pathways relevant to aortic endothelial function
REQUIREMENTS:
* Commitment to work in a multidisciplinary setting
* Highly motivated, independent, and collaborative mindset
* Master's degree in biology, molecular/experimental medicine, biochemistry, or related
* Strong interest in vascular biology, immunology, and/or microbiota research
* Strong methodological background with experience in cell culture (static and flow conditions), microscopy and molecular biology techniques (Western Blot, (RT)qPCR, cloning…)
WE OFFER:
* Dynamic, motivated and supportive working group
* Committed mentoring
* Access to cutting-edge technologies and core facilities in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics.
* Research laboratory with state-of-the art equipment
* Innovative technologies
* Excellent possibilities for career development
* Active participation in conferences
