The Leibniz Institute DSMZ-Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH, Braunschweig and the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) are members of the Leibniz Assoziation and nationally and internationally active research institutes. The DSMZ is one of the largest bioresource centers worldwide and the mission of ZALF is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture - together with society. We jointly offer the position of a Research Associate / PhD candidate (m/f/d) "Flies as vectors for the spread of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens" The position is part-time and initially limited to 3 years. The salary level will be TV-L 13 (65%). The work place will be in the group Microbial Genome Research at DSMZ (Braunschweig). The starting date will be as soon as possible. DSMZ and ZALF are members of the Leibniz Research Alliance „INFECTIONS“ (https://leibnizinfections.de/en/). This research network aims to use interdisciplinary research and communication to develop new strategies and methods for risk assessment, improve outbreak management and optimise control of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. The research is based on the One Health approach, which accounts for the interaction of humans, animals and the environment. All research is carried out as cooperative projects between several partner institutes. The position to be filled is associated with Project 9, which will investigate the potential of flies (Insecta) to transmit antimicrobial-resistant pathogens to humans. The research work will include laboratory and field experiments as well as modelling approaches to examine fly movement behaviour and the shedding of pathogenic bacteria, and to assess possible risks for human health.
