Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.
We offer you an exciting topic and individual support in the preparation of your thesis by experienced employees. A motivated and dynamic team awaits you in a very well equipped, research and development environment. In addition, we offer you connecting points within the framework of your studies or your career entry, e.g. a following PhD, the beginning of your scientific career as a junior scientist at Fraunhofer IPMS or becoming an engineer. We support you in this process!
The scientific work will be carried out in the research group Data Communication and Computing at Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden. The examination takes place via affiliation with a German university of applied sciences and is governed by the respective state university law.
Fraunhofer IPMS has been developing IP cores as well as complete digital and analog ASICs for many years. In this work, Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIA) architectures will be explored and compared. TIAs are crucial analog circuit components which are commonly used to convert and amplify current-signals of photodiodes to measurable voltage-signals for analog-digital conversion. They are widely used in areas such as optical data transfer, laser applications and photonic quantum communication systems.
Was du bei uns tust
The selected architecture will be designed in a selected target technology as schematic and validated in Cadence Virtuoso. In the next step, the TIA layout will be done and will be characterized by post-layout simulation. Finally, embedding layout in top level design will be done, and the TIA is characterized by post-layout simulation at top level including pad circuitry.
As part of a project to develop a quasi-monolithically integrated chip-platform for quantum-based random number generation, a TIA is to be developed that achieves the following target properties:
• Low noise characteristics
• High bandwidth in GHz-range
• Sufficient gain
• Suitable output voltage swing for the following ADC-stage
• Stable design with sufficient phase margin
Was Du mitbringst
* Education: You are currently pursuing a Master’s or Diploma degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
* Technical Skills: You have basic knowledge of analog IC and RF design. Additionally, you have experience working with Cadence Virtuoso IDE and its associated simulation tools (or comparable platforms). You are also familiar with the fundamentals of integrated analog layout design.
* Personal Skills: You possess excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail. You are capable of working collaboratively in a team environment and have an independent and well-organized working style.
* Language Skills: You have German language skills at level A1-A2 and English language skills at level B1-B2.
