The German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) is being established as a new research center in Lusatia. Its aim is to strategically strengthen German astrophysics, promote scientific excellence, and simultaneously make an active contribution to the structural transformation of the region. DevOps Service Engineer (m/f/d) for the DZA IT infrastructure
(subject to meeting the personal requirements, up to pay grade E 12 TVöD Bund; an additional IT specialist allowance may be granted in accordance with the collective agreement provisions)
to be filled on a permanent basis.
We are looking for an experienced DevOps Service Engineer to build and further develop the IT infrastructure of the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA) in Görlitz.
Supported by the high-performance computing (HPC) environment of TU Dresden, you will work in a newly formed operations team responsible for the reliable operation, automation, and availability of the systems. During this current development phase, you will have considerable scope to help shape a scalable, modern, and sustainable IT infrastructure.
Operation, monitoring and optimization of cloud and on-premise services within the DZA IT infrastructure
Setup, automation and documentation of system and service processes (e.g. via CI/CD, GitOps, shell scripting, cron jobs)
Implementation and maintenance of monitoring and logging systems (e.g., Support in integrating new software components and services into production operations
Ensuring IT security, availability and compliance in a growing research infrastructure
Collaboration with internal departments, the TU Dresden (HPC environment) and external project partners
Completed university degree in computer science or a related scientific/technical field
Several years of experience in the operation, automation and optimization of complex IT infrastructures
Solid knowledge of Unix/Linux systems, shell scripting, process automation (cron jobs)
A good understanding of software development and its operational requirements.
Enthusiasm for radio astronomy and the processing of extremely large amounts of data (“Exabytes and beyond”)
Good German and English skills, both spoken and written.
A responsible, diverse role at the interface between science, IT operations and infrastructure management
Remuneration according to TVöD Bund (E 12) including annual bonus and other social benefits of the public service
