Job Description
Primary function of the position:
The Optical Coating Process Engineer specializes in coating optical components. Responsibilities include shift design, equipment and material selection, process validation, and tool usage. They collaborate with Optical Engineering and operational teams, conduct feasibility studies, identify equipment needs, and provide feedback for optimizations. Additionally, they manage new coating system selection, requirement specifications, and system implementation.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Strong collaboration with product development in the design of new layers, as well as in the optimization of existing products.
2. Implementation of new layer designs in manufacturing. This includes the qualification and validation of the new processes.
3. Optical and mechanical characterization of coatings.
4. Collaboration in the definition and selection, procurement and implementation of new coating systems and methods, in close coordination with product development.
5. Build expertise on the available coating methods and their respective advantages and disadvantages, as well as their limitations (regarding general feasibility, process reliability, investments, effort, and costs).
6. Carrying out feasibility studies.
7. Drafting of work instructions as well as maintenance and calibration instructions for the safe operation of the systems.
8. Operation of the relevant measurement technology, evaluation and evaluation of the data
9. Guiding error analyses and implementing short-, medium- and long-term remedial measures.
10. Establishment of monitoring to ensure process capability and to identify deviations and trends in good time. Assumption of responsibility for monitoring. Identification of suitable measures to ensure the required output.
11. Establish a network of coating specialists (internal and external).
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
12. Master's degree in physics, Micro Systems Engineering, or equivalent. A PhD would be a desirable additional qualification.
13. Relevant professional experience (min. 8 years) in the field of optical coatings:Coating developmentImplementationEquipment engineeringProcess analysesKnowledge of materials
14. Excellent knowledge of common measurement and analysis technology, including operation of the corresponding measuring instruments.
15. Very structured way of working
16. Affinity for accurate documentation; Ability to formulate requirements and specifications to the point
17. Knowledge of ISO 10110, 9001, ISO 13485, and similar QMS standards is an advantage
18. Good communication and documentation skills in German and English
