About the Role
We are an ambitious AI startup building cutting-edge technology and scaling rapidly across regions. We are looking for a hands-on People Manager based in Munich, who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys building HR foundations from scratch.
This role is ideal for someone with startup experience who has successfully hired and supported offshore technical teams (engineering, data, AI/ML) and can balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution.
You will work closely with leaders, and offshore teams to shape people practices that support growth, innovation, and a strong company culture.
Key Responsibilities
People Operations & HR Foundations
* Build, implement and continuously improve HR policies, processes, and documentation suitable for a high-growth AI startup.
* Manage the full employee lifecycle in Germany, including onboarding, offboarding, contracts, and HR administration.
Act as a trusted HR partner to leadership and employees in a dynamic, scaling environment.
* Work closely with the outsourced HR partner to maintain a robust HR database. Support the optimisation of HR systems (HRIS, payroll, benefits).
Talent Acquisition (Germany & Offshore Technical Teams)
* Lead end-to-end recruitment for Germany-based roles and offshore technical teams (AI/ML engineers, software engineers, data scientists, platform engineers).
* Partner closely with hiring managers and technical leaders to translate business needs into clear hiring plans.
* Drive creative sourcing strategies suitable for a competitive AI talent market across Germany and potentially across Europe.
* Ensure a high-quality candidate experience and efficient hiring processes.
* Act as the primary point of contact for all campus-related collaborations and partnerships.
* Represent the company at career fairs, campus talks, networking events, hackathons, and industry panels.
Offshore Team Scaling & Support
* Support the hiring, onboarding, and people management of offshore technical teams across multiple locations.
* Provide guidance to managers on performance management, engagement, and retention for distributed teams.
* Help align offshore HR practices with company values while respecting local requirements and cultures.
* Act as the bridge between onshore leadership and offshore teams.
Performance, Culture & Engagement
* Manage performance management processes suitable for a startup environment.
* Coach managers on feedback, goal-setting, and difficult conversations.
* Support employee engagement initiatives and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture.
Partner with leadership on organisational design as teams scale.
HR Compliance & Risk Management
* Ensure compliance with German labour laws and employment regulations.
* Support employment-related risk management, including employee relations matters.
* Work with external advisors on legal, payroll, and compliance topics where required.
What We're Looking For
* 5+ years of HR experience, ideally including time in a tech or AI startup.
* Strong understanding of German employment law and HR best practices.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with minimal structure.
* Experience scaling teams from early stage to growth stage.
Experience partnering directly with founders and senior leaders.
* Strong German communication skills; English proficiency is highly preferred.
* Hands-on, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented mindset.
Nice to Have
* Experience hiring and supporting offshore technical teams, especially engineers and AI-related roles.
* Exposure to global hiring across Europe.
* Experience with EOR/PEO models for international teams.
* Familiarity with AI/ML roles and technical hiring processes.
