Science coordinators (f_m_x) in space physics and space weather

Our section is working on understanding the dynamical evolution of the hazardous space radiation environment and developing tools for the prediction of the adverse effects of the space environment utilising satellite observations, physics-based numerical models, machine learning, and data assimilation. Our research will help safely design and operate satellites and maintain ground networks. We try to bridge our theoretical studies with high-performance tools that can be used in science, predictions, and applications.\u00a0 \n

We are looking for two scientific coordinators to join our team! The successful candidates should have excellent communication and time management skills, as well as a background in scientific research. \n


Your responsibilites: \n
\n
1. One coordinator will manage the European Space Agency project FLAG (Forecasts and Long-term probabilistic data Assimilative prediction of the effects of Geomagnetic storms) \n
2. The other coordinator will manage the MIPT project (Magnetosphere, Ionosphere, Plasmasphere and Thermosphere, as a coupled system)\u00a0 \n \n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Both coordinators will be responsible for: \n

3. Arranging meetings (agenda, minutes) and coordination of efforts \n
4. Assisting with interviews and hiring \n
5. Editing publications, proposals and presentations \n
6. Interacting with stakeholders within Germany and the EU Commission \n
7. Writing scientific proposals and coordinating multi-campus science projects \n
8. Performing various administrative tasks \n


Your qualifications: \n
\n
9. A Master's degree in Geophysics or related disciplines; a PhD is a plus \n
10. Excellent knowledge of English (written and oral) \n
11. Excellent knowledge of German or basic knowledge with a willingness to learn \n
12. Ability to interact with and lead scientists and engineers \n
13. Ability and desire to perform complex administrative tasks \n
14. Ability to work in a collaborative and multi-cultural environment \n
15. Experience with software project management \n
16. Experience with large international programs \n
17. Exceptional organisational skills \n
18. Knowledge of Excel and MS Office, Latex skills are a plus \n \n

Fixed-term: 2 years (with possibility of extension)
Salary: The position is classed as salary group 13 according to \u201cTV\u00f6D Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)\u201d. The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h\/week); The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
Place of work: Potsdam \n\n
