About the role This role will be part of the Business Technology Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering mission‑critical, data‑driven, and digital solutions across all business segments and subsidiaries. This includes AI decision support tools, generative AI models (such as Large Language Models), and other data‑driven solutions. Business Technology drives the digitalisation efforts for the Munich Re Group, leading innovation and technological transformation. In BT, the Data and AI Products team focuses on designing and delivering advanced data‑analytics and AI products, partnering with all BT units to shape a holistic service offering and aligned product roadmaps based on concrete business demands. Our technology stack is based on a modern, cloud‑native setup including Azure infrastructure, data and AI services (Data Lake, AI Foundry, OpenAI), Databricks and adjacent technologies such as Kubernetes and Kafka. As a Solution Architect, embedded in a cross‑functional specialist team, you will lead the solution design of data and AI products to maximise the return on technology. You will navigate business and technology teams through the opportunity space of emerging versus established technologies and Munich Re Group architectural standards. Your stakeholders include central data and AI teams of Munich Re, ERGO and MEAG as well as the respective roles in the business units on a global level. You will ensure close alignment and collaboration with other BT teams, especially with data and AI products and data platforms. Your Job Design data and AI solutions and map business requirements to systems/technical concepts to ensure alignment with the enterprise architectural plan. Support the strategic direction of technology investments to develop the enterprise architecture and maximise the return on technology investment. Monitor the technology market in data and AI to identify transformative technologies for testing and introduction into the Munich Re solution space. Oversee adherence to appropriate standards (performance, monitoring capability, audit acceptability, secure environment) and guide solutions through the appointed Solution Architecture Forum as required. Balance functional, service‑quality and systems‑management requirements; design for operational readiness and scalability. Communicate architecture goals to business and consulting stakeholders during product‑requirements development. Analyse and design domain, application, or application architectures in alignment with IT enterprise architecture standards and patterns. Your Profile University degree in Computer Engineering/IT or a similar qualification. 4+ years of experience delivering data and AI solutions, preferably in the financial services industry. Experience in designing and developing solutions (Solution Development life cycles, IT risk & security considerations). Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following technical domains: cloud‑native development, advanced analytics, traditional or generative AI, digital product cloud security and/or DevSecOps, privacy and data protection, maturation of IT platforms and standards (e.g. shared services). Preferably ITIL or SAP certified, or the readiness to pursue one with our support. Strong solution‑strategy ability, including demonstrated communication of solutions and their benefits to IT and business stakeholders. Organisational change‑management capabilities promoting collaboration, accountability and overcoming silos. Thought leadership – the ability to monitor market trends and guide creative thinking on future technology capabilities that will increase Munich Re’s business value.
