At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. Do you want to join us in shaping a sustainable future?
Be part of change
You will be part of the group "Drivetrain Testing" at our site in Bremerhaven. We contribute significantly to the operation of the test benches at the site. We handle the integration of test specimens, measurement technology, and the execution of the tests. And we do this in close collaboration with our industrial customers. In addition, we are working on our own research projects related to powertrain technology. At present, the team consists of five employees and several students. Become an active member of the team; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us. You are wondering what you can bring to the team?
As a student assistant you will be working for our research project “NextGen”. The aim of the project is to test and validate a disruptive generator topology for wind turbines using one of our test rigs. Therefor you develop an user interface for integrating real-time measurement data, including data pre- and post-processing and data management. You will also establish and implement data processing methods to derive relevant information about the machine condition and operating status. Furthermore, you will implement the dashboard (front end) and the data processing methods (back end) in the test rig's measurement and control system. Finally, you will experimentally test and validate the developed measurement system on the test rig. Sounds like a lot? Do not worry, you will be supported by your colleagues in the team.
If you are interested, there is the possibility of doing an internship beforehand.
What you contribute
You are studying mechanical engineering or another engineering master’s degree program with a focus on electrical machines. Do you already have some knowledge with Python and MATLAB from your studies or other previous experience? Furthermore, you are interested in data processing, signal conditioning, and measurement technology. Do you already have some knowledge of experimental work? Great, then you have come to the right place!
What we offer
We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work.
The standard contract duration is 1 year, individual agreements are possible. The working time consists of up to 80 hours per month. Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.
