Mode of Employment: Limited We are seeking a driven and curious working student from October / November 2025 to support the hands-on development of a physical demonstrator that brings together control theory and reinforcement learning to enhance industrial automation. You will play an active role in building up the demonstrator system—from integrating sensors to deploying communication interfaces. This includes tasks like adapting mechanical components for more flexible operation, wiring and configuring sensors and actuators, and enabling real-time interaction with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and edge devices. The role sits at the intersection of hardware, embedded systems, and control engineering, with a focus on bringing theoretical control strategies into a functioning real-world setup. You’ll create impact by Working in an interdisciplinary research group of technical experts focused on design, control & system integration in the field of power electronics and automation Designing and building experimental hardware setups for testing control algorithms Programming and implementing real-time control systems Developing interfaces between hardware components and higher-level software Supporting the integration of sensors and actuators Creating documentation for hardware setups and electrical configurations Assisting in data acquisition and system identification experiments Contributing to the bridge between simulation and real-world implementation This is how you'll win us over Education : Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or related technical field Experience and Skills : Strong foundation in electronics and circuit design Proficient programming skills in either C/C++, Python or TIA Step7 Familiarity with Siemens S7-1500/S7-1200 PLCs Basic understanding of control theory and feedback systems Familiarity with measurement and instrumentation principles Experience with CAD tools and prototyping techniques is a plus Knowledge of communication protocols like OPC UA / UDP is beneficial Ways of working: Strong hands-on mindset with a practical, problem-solving approach Clear and structured communication, with attention to documentation Languages : Excellent communication skills in English You are much more than your qualifications, and we believe in the potential of every single candidate.
