Summary
We are offering aMaster Thesis opportunityfor a highly motivated student in the field ofmechanical engineering, computational mechanics, or related disciplines. The thesis will focus onFEM-basedsimulationstooptimizemechanical design in laser scanner systems, with a particular emphasis on drift behavior,stability analysis, and dynamic simulations of high-speed motion effects.
This roleprovidesthe unique chance to work at the intersection ofcutting-edgesimulation technology and real-world product innovation, contributing directly to the performance and reliability of Novanta’s high-precision laser scanning solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Develop and executefinite element models (FEM)to analyze mechanical drift phenomena in laser scanner assemblies.
2. Conductdynamic FEM simulationsto evaluate system behavior under high-speed motion, including deformation and transient stability effects.
3. Investigatedesign optimization strategiesto enhance stability, robustness, and long-term performance.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams inR&D, optics, and electronicsto ensure holistic system-level insights.
5. Document methodologies, results, and recommendations in alignment with Novanta’sengineering excellence standards.
6. Present findings to the engineering leadership team and contribute to theinnovation roadmapfor next-generation products.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
7. Enrollment in aMaster’sprogram in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Mechatronics, or related fields.
8. Strong foundationin FEM simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL).
9. Knowledge of mechanical design principles and structural optimization.
10. Analytical mindset with the ability to translate simulation results into practical design recommendations.
11. Excellent communication skills in English (CEFR B2 or higher).
