As part of a joint appointment Leibniz University Hannover and the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) invite applications for the following position to start as soon as possible: University Professorship of salary scale W3 BBesO for Empirical Higher Education Research and Science Studies and Scientific Director of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies
The future holder of the position is appointed as a professor at Leibniz University Hannover and is granted leave of absence to take over the management of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (Jülich model). The appointment as Scientific Director at the DZHW is for a period of five years. Reappointment is possible. The W3 professorship at Leibniz University Hannover can be awarded as a permanent civil servant position.
The German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies is a non-university, non-profit research institution funded by the German federal and state governments with its headquarters in Hanover and an office in Berlin. With around 200 employees, the institute is a national and international centre of excellence for higher education research and science studies. The scientific departments of the DZHW conduct knowledge- and problem-oriented research on current and long-term developments at all levels of the higher education and science system.
The Position
1. Scientific management as well as national and international representation and networking of the DZHW
2. Strategic development and positioning of the DZHW in the national and international research landscape
3. Intensification of the link between higher education research and science studies
4. Deepening of the cooperation between DZHW and Leibniz University Hannover (e.g. Leibniz Research Centre ‘Science and Society’, ‘Science Reflection Forum’)
5. Fostering DZHW's institutional relationships with stakeholders (federal and state governments), partner universities, science policy actors, consortia and scientific communities
6. Conducting internationally visible research
7. Further expansion of DZHW's scientific infrastructures
8. Knowledge transfer and policy advice
9. Active participation in the teaching of the Institute of Sociology in the Master's programme ‘Higher Education, Science and Society’ (2 teaching hours) and in PhD supervision
Your Profile
10. Experienced academic with outstanding academic achievements and competences in research and teaching with a proven interest in higher education and science research
11. Expertise in empirical research (quantitative and/or qualitative) and openness to quantitative and qualitative research methods
12. High international visibility and excellent integration into national and international networks
13. Proven leadership experience - ideally in a non-university research institution
14. Excellent leadership qualities, outstanding communication and negotiation skills, strong decision-making and skills in shaping organisations
15. Knowledge of developments in the national research infrastructure landscape as well as relevant experience in the design of research infrastructures, knowledge transfer and evidence-based policy advice
