Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical development and design of precision magnetic parts/assemblies and related components from concept phase through industrialization and series release. The role bridges mechanical engineering, magnetics and manufacturing by translating technical requirements into robust mechanical designs that meet performance, manufacturability and cost targets. Working closely with magnetics experts, production teams and international engineering colleagues, the position supports the build-up of PERMAG's European engineering organization and contributes to establishing scalable design standards and processes.
Major Responsibilities:
* Develop mechanical designs for magnetic parts/assemblies, housings and precision components using 3D CAD systems.
* Perform mechanical calculations, tolerance analyses and material selection for metallic and non-metallic parts.
* Apply Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturing principles during concept development.
* Create and evaluate solution concepts together with magnetics engineers, Sales and customers.
* Support prototyping activities, testing and iterative design improvements.
* Prepare technical drawings, BOMs and manufacturing documentation within ERP/PDM systems.
* Collaborate closely with magnetics engineering, production and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturable and scalable designs.
* Support technical discussions and design reviews with customers.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, standards and design methodologies.
* Responsibilities may evolve in line with business needs, within the scope of this role.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, Product Development or equivalent technical field.
* Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development.
* Hands-on experience with CAD design and mechanical assemblies.
* Experience with tolerance management and manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, grinding or joining.
* Exposure to high-precision industries such as Aerospace, Medical or Semiconductor is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
* Strong CAD skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or comparable).
* Understanding of materials, mechanical interfaces and structural design principles.
* Knowledge of Design-to-Cost, DFM/DFA or Value Engineering methods.
* Familiarity with ERP/PDM systems and engineering documentation processes.
* Basic understanding of magnetic-mechanical interactions is beneficial.
Language Skills:
* German (B2–C1), English (B2–C1)
