The Global Customs Office ("GCO") is part of the International Legal Department (SD 71). As a "Center of Excellence", it advises all business units (Divisions) of the DHL Group worldwide, including Corporate Functions, Global Business Services and Service Lines, on topics, issues and projects in the area of customs, indirect taxes and cross-border trade regulations. The GCO also performs tasks as a central "Customs Compliance" function, develops Group-wide guidelines and standards and monitors their implementation. The GCO team supports the divisions in general regulatory issues, procedural compliance issues, and vis-à-vis customs and other authorities.

Main tasks:
Customs & Trade Compliance Senior Specialist (m/w/d)
Responsibility for and management of customs law and customs related matters, topics and projects of the DHL Group with focus on the Europe region
* Representing and supporting the Head of the Global Customs Office (GCO) on strategic decisions, policy issues, coordinating tasks, as well as towards internal and external stakeholders
* Development of group-wide guidelines and process standards for the focus region and ensuring their implementation
* Management of all customs and customs-related matters in the focus region as part of the GCO
o Monitoring and evaluation of relevant regulatory developments at the European level
o Assessment of their impact on the DHL Group and its divisions and determination of necessary measures for risk mitigation and regarding sustainable strategic development
o Ensure updating of and information sharing with internal stakeholders on all relevant internal and external developments and measures
o Preparation and presentation of topics associated with high-risk exposure for the DHL Group to senior management
o Prioritization, planning, management or coordination of projects and working groups in close cooperation with the divisions
* Ensuring that the GCO fulfils its tasks and goals as a Center of Excellence and Customs Compliance function by advising and supporting the divisions as well as Corporate Functions regarding group guidelines and standards, process issues, as well as escalations in the area of customs and indirect taxes in the focus region of Europe
o Central contact person and escalation point for the Divisional Customs Compliance Officers
o Provision of target group-specific advice on the implementation or adaptation of Group guidelines and standards as well as on the development and implementation of necessary processes as well as monitoring and control measures
o Support in the detecting and assessment of legal risks as well as determination of necessary measures
* Management and support of audits, investigations and other administrative procedures
o Coordination and support of procedures in connection with the corporate headquarters
o Advice and support in connection with legal entities of the divisions
o Coordination of external counsels
* Leading and/or steering of cross-divisional, regional projects from conception to implementation with the involvement of relevant stakeholders as well as support of the divisions in local projects
* Participation in European trade associations, lead of working groups, as well as coordination and implementation of lobbying actions in coordination with the divisions and the Group’s Representation Office
* Chair the cross-divisional, regional Customs Knowledge Group to inform and coordinate regarding regulatory developments, internal measures and best practices relevant to the DHL Group
* Representing the GCO in Divisional Legal Practice Groups
Professional Requirements:
* Qualified lawyer (m/f/d), preferably with two successfully completed state examinations in law, experience in the higher service in the customs administration, or comparable qualification
* Several years of professional experience in the field of customs law (as well as import sales and excise tax law) in a corporate environment, ideally with strong experience or understanding of logistics business models and processes
* Extensive expert knowledge of (international) issues and projects in the field of customs (and also indirect taxes)
* Expertise in compliance and/or risk management
* Experience in the field of implementing and ensuring compliance guidelines and standards
* Very good knowledge and experience in project management
* Very good German and English language skills
