The University of Duisburg-Essen (Campus Essen)
Centre for Medical Biotechnology (ZMB) offers
1 PhD position, Doktorandenstelle (f/m/d)
(Part-time 65%; salary equivalent TV-L 13)
for “Cooperation of deubiquitinating enzymes and VCP/p97 in cellular stress responses” in the group of Prof. Dr. Hemmo Meyer.
The ZMB in Essen integrates medical research at the University Hospital and basic research at the Campus. The aim is to elucidate molecular mechanisms of diseases and to turn this knowledge into medical advances. The project aims to understand ubiquitin-mediated pathways regulating protein unfolding, degradation by the proteasome or autophagy with relevance for understanding aging, neurodegenerative disease or cancer vulnerabilities. The project will focus on biochemical reconstitution of complex cellular reactions
from pure components for detailed understanding and modulation. Methods will include protein engineering and high-end functionalization, FRET analysis, biolayer interferometry, mass and \\"real-time\\" fluorescence spectroscopy as well as mutagenesis. Experimental extension to cell-based assays is an
option. Your Profile
• The successful candidate will hold a Master in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related disciplines
• He/she has an excellent track record including experimental experience with protein purification and biochemical analysis We offer:
• Candidates will benefit from the international and interdisciplinary research environment at the ZMB, a structured graduate program and association with the Collaborative Research Center 1430
• a collaborative working atmosphere in a dynamic team
• state-of-the-art equipment and approaches
• a discrimination-free working environment with respectful, appreciative cooperation
• family-friendliness through childcare facilities for your children
