About lemon.markets Our mission is providing better opportunities to invest in capital markets. By empowering FinTechs and Banks to offer investment products, we help create financial well-being for their customers. In pursuit of this goal, we strive to open 100 million securities accounts within Europe in this decade. lemon.markets builds infrastructure for financial services and technology companies powering the next generation of investment products. From enabling a FinTech to launch their first investment product, over allowing e.g. a Neobank to embed investing into their product to bringing investing into a completely new context. Our API-first infrastructure makes launching an investment product customer-centric and compliant. We abstract all complexity for our partners through a well documented API, a self-service customer operations portal and operating in a clear regulatory framework. Enabling partners to launch in weeks, not months. We have experienced first hand that brokerage infrastructure is broken. Building an investment product used to be highly expensive, challenging and cumbersome. We ease this pain by shielding our partners & their customers from the underlying complexity - and with that, we make investing more accessible to everyone. Because that’s exactly what we enjoy, going to places nobody else dares and solving hard problems. This not only creates tons of value when done right, but attracts the smartest minds - because outlier companies are built by exceptional (& diverse) people like you. Your Mission: As our Senior Legal Counsel you’ll have the opportunity to design flexible, creative and out-of-the-box thinking, yet legally compliant solutions and processes to realise our company's vision. Developing new ideas and delivering proposals for their implementation, driving innovation (also outside of legal) - all whilst being proactive. You are so much more than just ‘the lawyer’. You are a provider of solutions. Here at lemon.markets, we value ownership so you will help shape its further development in a crucial position with a high degree of responsibility and freedom, as well as high visibility to senior management. You will work together with an outstandingly experienced team of colleagues and will benefit from a very personal and human mentoring. You will: Play a leading role in developing and enhancing financial products, from initial concept to final implementation, addressing all legal challenges that arise at each stage. You will take full ownership of your projects. Draft and/or review agreements with suppliers and partners, as well as develop and maintain standard agreements, including standard terms and conditions. Closely monitor legislative, regulatory and case-law developments, proactively inform colleagues within and outside the Legal department of any impact on existing product offerings and, where necessary, propose and drive implementation measures to ensure timely and compliant adoption of new requirements. Support the General Counsel in shaping the company’s legal strategy, including supporting the company’s European expansion. Be part of the Legal team, working closely with the General Counsel and your colleague and will be acting as on of their deputies. Provide a wide range of specialist advice where banking and securities law will be just one aspect of your work. You will also advise on corporate law, labour law, administrative law and, of course, general civil and contract law. You will work in an interdisciplinary manner, and close collaboration with other teams will be a key part of your day-to-day responsibilities. Work closely with back-office functions, including Compliance, AML and Data Protection, all of which will regularly seek your input on a variety of topics. Have high visibility to the managing directors and our founder, advising them either as a subject-matter expert on specific issues or in your role as one of the deputies to the General Counsel. You will be successful in this role if: You are a fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist) with strong academic foundations, and you’ve already spent around five years sharpening your legal expertise in practice. You feel at home navigating complex regulatory environments and have gained experience in the financial industry, securities or investment firms, or the fast‑paced world of fintech or start‑ups. Switching seamlessly between German and English at a C1 level is second nature to you. You’re someone who naturally takes ownership. When a topic lands on your desk, you don’t just handle it, you drive it forward. You work autonomously, manage your workstreams with confidence, and keep momentum even when things get busy or priorities shift. Change doesn’t unsettle you; it motivates you. Complex legal questions don’t intimidate you either. You can translate them into simple, accessible language that helps colleagues, from engineers to product managers, truly understand the bigger picture. You take pride in working accurately, thoughtfully, and in a structured way, and your strong analytical skills, paired with clear communication and solid negotiation instincts, help you reach the best outcomes. You’re curious, open‑minded, and willing to dig into new and unfamiliar areas of law, because learning something new energises you. Most importantly, you enjoy working with people, especially in a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment.
