The role of Principal Application Scientist works with a team of scientists who collaborate with clients through all phases of a project's life cycle. It is part of a cross-functional team with the development and support teams to build new client opportunities, deliver projects, and grow Dotmatics business and scientific reputation. The customers solve complex automated analytical chemistry (chromatography / Mass Spectrometry ) projects across a wide range of laboratory workflows. The role requires self-drive and collaboration as the entire team is remotely based and spread across many time zones, as are our industry partners.
Role Functions:
* Contribute to business development, project realization, project delivery, and post-delivery training and support activities.
* Collaborate with clients to understand and capture the scope of existing and new projects.
* Understand the highly adaptable capabilities of our current solutions and workflows and apply these in the context of new project opportunities. Translate customer-requested functionality and workflow gaps and capture these into project delivery requirements that are understandable to our internal development and support teams.
* Collaborate with our development team on project customization and core product development.
* Contribute to the product and automated solution workflow roadmaps of the business.
* Contribute and help drive our growing scientific and business presence in the industry.
* Assist our support team in solving more challenging customer support calls and requests.
* Be a mentor, source of expertise, and communicator, adapting to different levels of technical familiarity with the people with whom we work internally and externally.
* Travel to and participate in scientific conferences and onsite customer activities.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Overall skills
10+ years of hands-on instrument experience in chromatography and mass spectrometry applications.
Ideally hold a PhD, but open to a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree with significant experience in the field/relevant scientific domain, with proven expertise in laboratory workflows.
Prior automation experience, knowledge of Virscidian applications, and familiarity with instrument/robotics hardware are highly desirable.
Advanced analytical skills, problem-solving, great attention to detail, and cross-functional teamwork and communication in all forms of presentation.
Specific skills
* Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (LC and/or GC).
* Experience in one or more Analytical Chemistry workflows: Purification, Direct to Biology (D2B), High Throughput Experimentation (HTE), Affinity Screening Studies, or MS-Based DMPK / Bio-assays.
* Project Management Experience.
* Working in a global setting.
* Leading/delivering internal and external meetings and/or training sessions.
