Tasks include global circulation model (GCM) simulations of the Earth's atmosphere, idealized direct numerical simulations (DNS) of stratified turbulence, and analysis of observational data from remote sensing or in situ sources. The focus is on analyzing energy, helicity, and enstrophy cascades using these different data sets in order to understand the bidirectional (direct and inverse) cascade processes in the Earth's atmosphere.

This joint project is being carried out in close cooperation with the Radar Sounding Department at the Leibniz Institute for Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in Kühlungsborn.

The successful candidate will also be permanently involved in publishing and presenting research and project results.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

A strong background in fluid mechanics and/or atmospheric physics is essential, as is a solid understanding of isotropic turbulence theory. Experience of direct numerical simulations (DNS) and global circulation model (GCM) simulations would be advantageous.
